Prerequisite: Functions (Grade 11 University Preparation) or Mathematics for College Technology (Grade 12 College Preparation)

Logarithmic, and trigonometric functions; broaden their understanding of rates  of  change;  and  develop  facility  in  applying these concepts and skills. Students will also refine their use of the mathematical processes necessary for success in senior mathematics. This course is intended both for students who plan to study mathematics before proceeding to any one of the variety of university programs.

  • Unit 2: Functions - Understanding Rates of Change
  • Unit 3: Polynomial Functions
  • Unit 4: Polynomial Equations and Inequalities
  • Unit 5: Rational Functions, Equations and Inequalities
  • Unit 6: Trigonometric Functions
  • Unit 7: Trigonometric Identities and Equations
  • Unit 8: Exponential and Logarithmic Functions
  • Unit 9: Combinations of Functions

MCV4U Calculus and Vectors (University Preparation)

Prerequisite/Co requisite: Advanced Functions (Grade 12 University Preparation)

This course builds on student’s previous experience with functions and their developing understanding of rates of change. Students will solve problems involving geometric and  algebraic  representations  of vectors,  and  representations of lines and planes in three dimensional space; broaden their understanding of rates of change to include the derivatives of polynomial, rational, exponential, and sinusoidal functions; and apply these concepts and skills to modelling of real-world relationships. This course is intended for students who plan to study mathematics in university and who may choose to pursue careers in fields such as physics and engineering.

  • Unit 1: Rate of Change
  • Unit 2: Derivatives
  • Unit 3: Curve Sketching
  • Unit 4: Derivatives of Sinusoidal Functions
  • Unit 5: Exponential and Logarithmic Functions
  • Unit 6: Geometric Vectors
  • Unit 7: Cartesian Vectors
  • Unit 8: Lines and Planes

MDM4U Mathematics of Data Management (University Preparation)

Prerequisite: Functions (Grade 11 University Preparation) or Functions and Applications (Grade 11 University/ College Preparation)

This course broadens students’ understanding of mathematics as it relates to managing information. Students  will apply methods for organizing large amounts of information;  solve  problems  involving  counting  techniques, probability, and statistics; and carry out a culminating project that integrates the expectations of the course. Students will continue to develop the mathematical processes necessary for  success  in  senior  mathematics. Students planning to pursue university programs in business, the social sciences, and the humanities will find this course of particular interest.

  • Unit 1: One - Variable Statistics
  • Unit 2: Two - Variable Statistics
  • Unit 3: Combinatorics
  • Unit 4: Combinatorics and Binomial Theorem
  • Unit 5: Introduction to Probability
  • Unit 6: Probability Distributions
  • Unit 7: The Normal Distributions
